The Rotary Club of Parker honored Ponderosa High School student Madeline Zink as our January Student of the Month.  Madeline has been involved in many activities such as National Honour Society, Student Council. Link Crew, Ponderosa Bridge Project and Ponderosa Activities Cabinet Member.  She also has participated in JV Track and Field, JV Tennis and Athletic Training Aid.  Her community service is expansive and includes Ave Maria Carnival, Denver Rescue Mission, Special Olympics Hawaii, Christmas for Kids, Denver Street Pie Collection and Trick or Treat Street for Kids, etc.

Madeline has been accepted to many higher education colleges and universities and is looking to study Kinesiology, Psychology or Military Strategy.  For her career plan she is pursuing military academics and ROTC to jump start a military career in the Air Force or Army.  Congratulations Madeline!
RCParker Scholarship Update

It's timely to review what the Rotary Club of Parker does with regards to college and vocational scholarships.  We support both Chaparral and Ponderosa High School seniors with 6 (three to each school) $1000.00 scholarships.  The counselors office of both schools will be supplied with applications on or before February 27th. The deadline for completed applications is April 12th, with presentations scheduled for our meeting on May 16th.  I hope Dennis Brewster and Jim Muir are available for that date.  They do such a great job presenting the Student of the Month.  The application will be judged based on the following criteria:

1) Financial need                                20%
2) Extra-Curricular Activities            20%
3) Community Service/Citizenship    25%
4) Grade Point Average                      20%
5) "Service Above Self" Essay           15%

Our Club also offers one $1000.00 scholarship for a student to attend either a Trade School or Vocational School.  That scholarship is also available for a student of either Chaparral or Ponderosa High School and will be available at  the counselors office as well.  Similar dates apply to this scholarship. The judging criteria is the same in points 1 thru 3 but 4) is Career Goals and 5) is "Service Above Self" paragraph.

I must mention that the 3 Ponderosa scholarships are endowed by members Lew Million, Hank Coll and Doc Martin.  A big thank you to those gentlemen!!  And also members Alex Doyle and Hal Gustin have offered to help with the judging.

The Rotary Club of Parker also offers a $3000.00 scholarship through Vocational Services.  I would refer you to Peggy Carter for those details.
