Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Everyday at the Parker Police Department

In an effort to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, the Parker Police Department is now a permanent site for a Medication Collection Box. You can now drop off your unused or expired medications in the front lobby of the Parker Police Department.

The decision to add this service for Parker residents year round was due to the many requests we had for this service and large demand during National Prescription Drug Take Day. We are working in conjunction with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to provide this service. The state funded program expanded with the goal to establish a permanent collection location in every Colorado County. The only cost to the Parker Police Department is the time of the employee(s) assisting with collection duties. The supplies, disposal contractors and collection box itself is at no cost to the department. Thank you CDPHE!

The Medication Collection Box is available to the public during normal business hours, Mon - Fri 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sat – Sun 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Items Not Accepted

  • Chemotherapy and radioactive substances
  • Illicit drugs
  • Mercury thermometers
  • Needles and sharps
  • Pressurized canisters

RCParker Scholarship Update

It's timely to review what the Rotary Club of Parker does with regards to college and vocational scholarships.  We support both Chaparral and Ponderosa High School seniors with 6 (three to each school) $1000.00 scholarships.  The counselors office of both schools will be supplied with applications on or before February 27th. The deadline for completed applications is April 12th, with presentations scheduled for our meeting on May 16th.  I hope Dennis Brewster and Jim Muir are available for that date.  They do such a great job presenting the Student of the Month.  The application will be judged based on the following criteria:

1) Financial need                                20%
2) Extra-Curricular Activities            20%
3) Community Service/Citizenship    25%
4) Grade Point Average                      20%
5) "Service Above Self" Essay           15%

Our Club also offers one $1000.00 scholarship for a student to attend either a Trade School or Vocational School.  That scholarship is also available for a student of either Chaparral or Ponderosa High School and will be available at  the counselors office as well.  Similar dates apply to this scholarship. The judging criteria is the same in points 1 thru 3 but 4) is Career Goals and 5) is "Service Above Self" paragraph.

I must mention that the 3 Ponderosa scholarships are endowed by members Lew Million, Hank Coll and Doc Martin.  A big thank you to those gentlemen!!  And also members Alex Doyle and Hal Gustin have offered to help with the judging.

The Rotary Club of Parker also offers a $3000.00 scholarship through Vocational Services.  I would refer you to Peggy Carter for those details.

"Energy from the Verve'"
This week our speaker was of the Vervssional Coach, talking to us about "Energy from the Verve'"

Gordon shared with us the 11 Energies of the Verve:  Passion, Enthusiasm, Compassion, Openness, Sincerity, Truth, Self-Value, Forgiveness, Sparkle, Courage and Love.  Engage these energies daily to reveal a fresh path to personal positivity and performance of best self.

Up With People
Former Rotarian, Jacob Shafer visited with the Club today looking for families to be host homes for Up With People cast members.  Host families would host from January 15 - February 18th.  When you host a crew member you'll experience a cultural exchange that inspires understanding in a unique way.  Simply provide a place to sleep, some meals and limited transportation.  Contact the Staging Team at 303.460.7100 or staging@upwithpeople.org.
